Artist’s Statement – Jonathan M. Dunitz
Natural disasters, decaying vehicles and architectural anomalies work a lawyer’s left brain. For artists, these things can occupy the right brain. For Jonathan M. Dunitz, it is a left and right brain experience. By day he is a litigator at Friedman Gaythwaite Wolf & Leavitt, where he is Senior Counsel. During his free time, he is an accomplished photographer whose unique perspective captures a rather varied subject matter. His photos embody a variety of subject matter including the architecture of New York City and Boston, post-Katrina New Orleans, crumbling barns and houses, long abandoned cars and, of course, the Maine coast.
Jonathan uses Canon AE-1 35 millimeter SLR cameras and a Hasselblad Medium Format camera and then scans and prints the images digitally.
In November 2009 Jonathan was one of 12 amateur and professional photographers who were selected to present their work in a “Photo Slam” at the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, New Hampshire. He has presented his works in numerous solo and group shows in Portland, Maine and is represented in New York by the Ripe Art Gallery. Jonathan is also active in the community, donating photographs to numerous charitable organizations for auctioning in their fundraising events. He resides in South Portland, Maine with his greyhound, Lucy.
